CommentsDaniel Joseph Casavant's comment: One of Canada's truly best musical units. Excellent writing and playing by the very best musicians i Winnipeg at that point in time. Kudos to Bob Fuhr and Glenn Axford for their passion and work in bringing this music into the 21st century. Glen Hall...your compositions and subject matter are indeed relevant to the present. Congratulations to you Glen. So happy for you...and all the members of the band, Glenn and all involved. Kim Russell: Long, long overdue. This a band that should have been on the world stage. So good to see that this album is finally out. Happy for all involved. Sandy Chochinov: Bob called me to check out Zdenka. They were rehearsing in the basement of Banquox sound. The band sounded unbelievable. So tight and spontaneous. Bob’s voice riding on top of these amazing pieces of music. A voice so beautiful and soulful. They did every genre from jazz funk to the avantgarde. I just had my first listen to the album and it blew me away. Great playing Glen,Danny,Greg,Steve,Brian and Bob. Sounds great Glenn A. A Gem! Laurie Mackenzie: First, I want to congratulate you on (and thank you for) your stellar work - both then and now. The album was always world class, but the restoration is beautiful. I was literally overcome. Tthe warmth is unlike other CDs, including remasters of 70s releases and current releases - it became an even more emotional experience, as it was "back in the day". The album is sooooo good!!! Glen Hall: In 1977 I was in the Winnipeg band, Zdenka. We recorded our one and only album, which, until now, has not been heard. Now, 40 years later, thanks to painstaking work to 'reconstitute' the master tape by the recording's original engineer, Glenn Axford, and band leader Bob Fuhr, "Oceans of Tears" is now available. It features two of my pieces. "Con-Science" is about ethically questionable scientific experiments on prisoners. "My Constitutional Rights", originally written as an ironic commentary on the planned Nazi march through Skokie, Illinois, seems uncomfortably appropriate nowadays. Greg Black: I do a lot of listening and am somewhat of an audiophile and the album I heard is as good and generally better than some very highly regarded current "audiophile" quality pop albums. There were no sibilants or "edginess" to any part of the mix yet there was an amazing amount of detail - nothing was buried all the subtleties came through. The cymbles were smooth not "glassy" sounding and I could hear the stick sound on the drum head in many cases also a nice "fat" kick, snare and tom sound! Being a drummer I tend to focus a bit more on the drums but all the instruments sound amazing, sax, trumpet/flugelhorn, Steve's guitar, Bob's piano & vocals, flute and percussion sounds - I was blown away at what you and Bob have achieved. Also the stereo image had the instruments and vocals nicely placed. From hearing a few cuts of the "original" tape a couple of years ago this to me is a night and day change and all for the good. I understand there will be a Hi Res download available - EXCELLENT! You both should be extremely pleased with what you've done - I know I am. Given what you had to work with (all be it a very well recorded but 40+ year old 2 track master ) to be able to bring it into the 21st century like you have has made me both pleased and proud. Terry Read: I’m loving the sound production and it’s such a thrill to hear these wonderful songs again. With as much bias as I have it’s impossible for me to be objective in any reliable way but while listening I never thought they sounded out of place with regards to style or production. You really should feel great about what was accomplished. This is truly a labor of love. Howard Gurevich's: 40 years! Yikes. Spent many an enjoyable and very late night at Roade Recording with these fine musicians. Ahead of the curve, inventive and definitely worth listening to. |
